"How could NFS fall so far?"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game is terrible. I'm not even going to try to make it seem any less so. My PC was the best that I could buy at the start of the year and can play all the latest games with no problems. However, this game just keeps lagging. It will freeze for a couple of seconds, allow me to drive for a few metres, then lag again.

The graphics are average at best when compared to other games released at a similar time. The physics are terrible with the opponents cars being bricks and your car bouncing off them. The AI is basically no existant. It's like the opponents follow a fixed path, all the time.

About the only nice thing I have to say about it is the fact that the story cutscenes were mostly done by actual actors, as opposed to CGI.

Overall – Rubbish.

"Not bad, but not great either"
3 stars"

Overall, I enjoyed the game. It attempts to meld all of the best parts of the previous games in the series into one package, and does a not bad job of it. But they could have done better.

The biggest thing they did wrong was fall into my biggest peeve in any game – the AI does not play by the same rules that players do. One particular mode this can be seen on is the Highway Battle. The goal is to get 300 yards in front of the opposition while weaving through traffic. Trouble is, the opposition accelerates faster than the player, can corner faster, and doesn't suffer the same speed penalties for turning. In one race, I watched the AI car in front of my plow into 3 cars (or at least, they went spinning accross the road, not into my path) without being slowed down. You try that, and you are starting the race over.

Get the AI on the best line through any course, fine. Give it knowledge of when to dodge. No problem. Even let it cheat by souping up cars more than the player could. But don't cheat on the actual gameplay – thats just lazy.

Another drawback is the inconsistent difficulty. Some high level races are so easy it is not funny. Some low level ones are so hard it will take 10 or 15 attempts even with the most souped up car it is possible to get before one dominates it.

My last gripe is with the ‘driver skills’. Dominate a race and you will recieve an increase in your ability to tune your ride. Does it do anything? Didn't notice it. My ride has its drivetrain 2.0 points towards top speed. When I souped up my car it had a top speed of 404kph. After I maxed my driver skills, it still went at 404kph. I will be happy to admit I am wrong, but I think this area of the game is a con.

Those negatives aside, I actually quite enjoyed the game. There were a number of races I loved – one noticable one with a Domination time of 2.12.34. I must have finished it 10 times with times between 2.12.50 and 2.14 dead. The sense of achievement at the end was great.

Race modes are varied, with something for everyone. There is a story, though again the pacing could have been improved. Cities were good, roads varied and fun. Graphics were good, engine sounds not bad, and I didn't really mind the interface. Game music left something to be desired, but that was solved by turning it off and firing up the stereo.

Was it worth it? Yeah, I think so. But it isn't one of the greats.

"not too good"
2 stars"

I'm a need for speed fan and i'm terribly disappointed at the last few games (carbon, pro street & undercover). Need for speed seems to have fallen down the roads because the game is terrible now.

The story is alright i guess but the AI is so stupid they follow a fixed track i think, they don't try to bump you or anything. The physics aren't good and the game keeps lagging but i have a new comp… The games seems quite fun in the beggining but it gets so boring because the races seem the same but when you get to a special job it gets fun again (although the jobs are quite hard).

The game is so stupid because when you hide under a tunnel or carpark the helicopter still follows you. You can't really ditch the helicopter until it runs out of fuel.

Conclusion- only buy this game if you've tried the demo and think its alright.

"um... Horrible"
2 stars"

Heys guys I started to buy NFS games starting from NFS underground and they were great, I actually played NFS underground about 10 times over.

Since NFS prostreet i really dislikes NFS as they started to mess with car handling and some other stuff like game play (absolutely boring racing over and over again with no storyline).

In general as most the people say that NFS undercover is great with story line (which i agree aswell) and the free roam is better then ever. But few minor or major problems that I started experiencing since NFS Prostreet… Game lag and some video scenes just dont even play properly. To compare I have 4GB ddr2 800mhz RAM, Intel E6850 CPU, previously had ATI 2900×t 1GB and now have ATI 4870×2. I started to play NFS undercover and it wasnt as smooth with the 2900×t 1gb so I bought a 4870×2 which should be twice as fast and still there is tiny bit of lag on full graphics (not really comfortable when you are trying to move around heavy traffic).

I dont know maybe its ATI cards that have problems starting with NFS prostreet game but seriously I dont even feel like buying the next game as it might be waste of money again. I think that NFS games have been great so far but I might think its something to do with new developers from EA.

This probably shouldnt be on this review but even RaceDriver – Grid has managed to pull off much better graphics and FPS for the game.

If you dont mind spending $100 (new release) or $50 (after a few weeks or months) then NFS Undercover is worth playing maybe once.

"Rubber banding gone mad"
2 stars"

Take a well known franchise with a few good and excellent games (underground 2, most wanted etc). And slap on a bs hollywood story. mmm fun. – not.

As stated before the ai is built off the “cheat the buggery out of the game” rather then having a good drag out battle. Test this for yourselves get a trainer for infinte nos , and then watch as the ai sails past you no mater what your doing.

Another EA title vomiting all over the various platforms trying to be a good title, “who needs story we have graphics” comes to mind.

Save yourself the time and frustration , dig out need for speed underground and play that , the graphics are nearly the same the cars handle better and the ai is realistic, ish , well – better then underground.

Come on EA is making a racing game that hard? i mean really you guys make it so complicated, give me a racing game that is fun with big crashes cop chases and lots of cars/upgrades

Is that so hard?.. when it isnt for you guys i will actually buy another nfs game rather then play on a rental xbox or ps3 game.

You guys at EA actually want me to buy games correct? after all the DRM debaical i thought you where trying to dissuade PC customers.

"Add-on to previous review."

2 things I didn't write about in the previous review: the story, and online.

The cutscenes in the game does make you feel like you're watching a movie. It is really that good. Also, the ending has a very interesting twist that may surprise.

Online in this game is very fun. Although finding a game online maybe difficult at times, once you find one though, it is very rewarding. The cops and robbers mode is very fun, especially with more people, and racing AIs in singleplayer does get tedious and boring, so racing online with real people is much more entertaining. So this online feature does make the game much better.

The more you play it, the more you like it.

"It is a fun game, but it'll get boring very quickly."

I bought the game about a week ago. Now that I've clocked it, here's what I think.

Pros: HUGE map – good for free roaming Many cars to choose from Variety of race types/modes Graphics – if your computer can run it (which mine can't)

Cons: Physics – it is truly awful Cops – they can be irritating New menu system – annoying and rather inconvenient

As a whole, it is a fun game, but it'll get boring very quickly.

"buying pc games?"

I cant express the hate i have for the gaming companies! NFS always liked it but with this… actually i was looking forward for the undercover. pro street didn't even buy wouldn't run on my pc not that i got a beta one, still!!! what is ea aim??u can buy a new game and play on xbox play station whatever but when it comes to pc u need an upgrade every time there is a new game out!! wait just a second xbox came out around 2005 and it can play all the games that are new now, but the pc from 07...... left behind. i think nfs would b fine with good graphics still not to sure about the new AI in the new games they are way to smart in some places and don't get penalized like a normal player does.

"Great game"
5 stars"

This game is worth buying if you are into Action, racing and exitement. I also have a game very similar to this, It's called “Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2”, These are very much the same and are heaps of fun. You can use the steering wheel which makes it even more realistic (I have it and I reccomend that you get it with it), You have a selection of cars and tracks, you can even go in cop mode. This is the perfect game for people who are into this stuff. The picture quality is great, it is also very exiting, so BUY THIS GAME if you are interested in it, it is the perfect game.

"Better than ever."
4 stars"

This game is a compilation of all the great and fun things in the previous games. With only the main and most enjoyable race types, with a few more, the graphics and story line really enjoyable. Definitely a must have.

"I Disagree, I Think This Game Is A+"
4 stars"

Just to start off with i disagree with all of you people who say that NFS has fallen so far. This latest chapter to NFS is an awesome game. It gives you different varies of racing styles and an open-roaming map. It gives you a nice range or “crap” to “flashy” cars. Crystal Clear graphics and smooth gameplay. A recommended buy and play. 4/5
