Soundway Records presents Hedzoleh, the original score than went on to be re-recorded for Hugh Masekela’s seminal 1973 album Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz - remastered & repackaged with the outlandish original artwork! Hedzoleh Soundz were one of the first & most original “afro” bands from 1970s Ghana, playing a mix of traditional music from across the country tinged with western rock when they met the world famous trumpeter Masekela.  

The music for Hedzoleh was recorded just months before the band met Masekela - but the tracks would become the backbone of (& sadly overshadowed by!) his afro-jazz classic LP. Hedzoleh (meaning ‘freedom’) emerged at a time of great change in the West African music scene & the band typified the new feeling for Afrocentric roots & culture which was gaining popularity amongst the youth of the day.
