God's Pocket is an American drama film on DVD, directed by John Slattery and starring Christina Hendricks and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Directed by Mad Men star John Slattery (who plays aging playboy Roger Sterling), God's Pocket stars the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his final roles.
When Mickey’s (Hoffman) crazy stepson Leon is killed in a construction ‘accident,’ nobody in the working class neighborhood of God’s Pocket is sorry he’s gone. Mickey tries to bury the bad news with the body, but when the boy’s mother (Christina Hendricks, MAD MEN, DRIVE) demands the truth, and a local reporter (Richard Jenkins, THE VISITOR) starts sniffing around, Mickey finds himself stuck in a darkly comedic life and death struggle. A body he can’t bury, a wife he can’t please and a debt he can’t pay.
God's Pocket Movie Reviews
“A brash, black comedy” The Guardian
“ODamnably amusing. Philip Seymour Hoffman is heartbreakingly good.” New York Magazine
“Invites comparisons to the Coen brothers’ work…moments of effective dark comedy, and the cast is wholly committed to the bleak absurdity of it all.” Geek Nation
“John Slattery is famous for his role as Roger Sterling on AMC's MAD MEN…Fittingly for a film directed by an actor, this is a performers showcase. Everyone does good work, with Seymour Hoffman especially good as Mickey.” Joblo.com
