Series 2 of First Crossings, the TVNZ show where the thrill of adventure
comes to life!
First Crossings Season 2 sees Kevin and Jamie recreate eight historical
journeys, as we witness the gruelling physical and mental demands those early
explorers endured, experiencing the same heady mix of fear, frustration and
elation.
Like Sir Ed in 1944, Kevin and Jamie not only climbMt Tapuaenuku in the
Kaikoura Ranges in a day, they cycle 80km to get there – in 1940s clothes and
on 1930s bicycles!
Using pioneering scuba gear, the boys recreate Kelly Tarlton’s early
diving expeditions in the 1950s as he sought treasure from the Elingamite wreck
at the notorious Three Kings Islands.
They follow the fateful footsteps of gold-miner Alphonse Barrington, whose
1864 mid-winter traverse of mountain ranges and glaciers near Queenstown is
unique in our history for its “boldness born of desperation”. A story that
has Kevin and Jamie eating roasted rat!
They will get into the minds of those great and brave New Zealanders whose
stories they are honouring. With their ability to succinctly vocalise their
thoughts, Kevin and Jamie transform silent, black and white historical figures
into vibrant, multi-faceted and intelligent characters.
