Description

The Bateman Contemporary Atlas New Zealand provides a fascinating insight into what shapes our nation today and what may be shaping our future. This latest edition provides up-to-date information on hundreds of topics of interest, presenting and interpreting the latest cultural and geographical research in a visually exciting way. A new feature is the 1:750,000 map of the country, presented over 12 plates, and accompanying gazetteer.

The Atlas covers broad subject areas including the physical landscape; the environment and our impact on it; historical and population information; New Zealand's economy and infrastructure; and our country's social and cultural life. Information and advisors have come from many sources including the Departments of Geography at the Universities of Canterbury, Auckland and Waikato, the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, Blue Skies Weather and Climate Limited, Landcare Research, the Department of Conservation, Transit New Zealand, the National Library, the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, the New Zealand Geographical Society, the Population Studies Centre and Statistics New Zealand. 5 stars "More detailed than I hoped for"

This Contemporary Atlas of NZ is absolutely brilliant. I wasn't fully aware of the detail that it would go into. Geology, Mineral Resources, Climate, Rainfall, Soils, Vegetation, Natural Hazards, Agriculture, Forestry…etc. If these sort of things intertest you, then buy it. If you have intermediate aged school children…definitely buy it!!

5 stars "Authoritative, well-written with great illustrations."

I bought this as a companion to the New Zealand Historical Atlas, also published by Bateman. It is smaller than the Historical Atlas, but still a good size. It is well illustrated, well written and well referenced. I'm glad I purchased it.
