Both of these series are an amazing insight to the times of WWII in both Europe and the Pacific theater. Combined with memories of veterans, they are definitely a must watch, no, a must buy. An asset in any collection.
I bought this when it cost around $40 and it was brilliant. The box is great and has a bunch of extra features.
From executive producers Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Gary Goetzman the two critically acclaimed 10-part HBO Miniseries Band of Brothers and The Pacific gift set with exclusive never-before-seen documentary ‘He Has Seen War’ featuring surviving veterans of Easy Company and the 1st Marine Division.
Band of Brothers (2001)
Based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose, the epic 10-part miniseries Band
of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st
Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Drawn from interviews with survivors of Easy
Company, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, Band of Brothers chronicles
the experiences of these men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary
fear. They were an elite rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day
morning, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing
Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. They were also a unit that suffered
150 percent casualties, and whose lives became legend.
WINNER – Golden Globe for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, + 22 other award wins and 20 nominations.
“..absolutely extraordinary – just like the men it portrays.”
USA Today
“After watching the 10-hour Band of Brothers, I'm so drained by the
intensity of what I have just beheld that I'm ready to declare this World War
II miniseries the finest piece of work ever produced for television.” New
York Post
“May be the best-ever film depiction of war in the trenches, large screen
or small” LA Times
" it's doubtful that any film or TV venture has ever come close to
“Brothers” in presenting “What Men Went Through” over the long
haul." Variety
The Pacific (2010)
From the team behind the Emmy®- and Golden Globe®-winning HBO miniseries Band
of Brothers comes The Pacific: an epic ten-part miniseries that tracks the
intertwined odysseys of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge and
John Basilone – across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World
War II. These men, along with other Marines, are tracked from their first battle
on Guadalcanal in 1942, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and
strongholds of Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and,
finally, to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day in 1945.
WINNER – Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries, + 21 other award wins and 27 nominations.
“An equally spectacular, equally triumphant yet tonally divergent work
that stands with "Band of Brothers” as the best war movie ever made for
TV.“ USA Today
"It is a gem of a production and would be a highlight of any TV season..as
complete and realistic as any work of film could be.” The Hollywood
Reporter
“The Pacific is magnificent in its visual and graphically visceral scope
and shattering in its emotional, deeply personal impact.” TV Guide
