2 stars "A waste of money."

First disc is a bare 45 minutes. Even by the 1960s 90% is silent except for the annoying fake projector sound or the same piece of disjointed scratchy music. The 1970s is covered in 8 minutes. There must be better archive film around than this.

"Disappointed"

I was very disappointed in these 3 DVDs as previous statement mentioned. The projector noise was horrible and the same stories were repeated twice in total. Absolute waste of money and very poor quality and very little voiceover to tell you where it was or what was happening.

Description

From 1929 The Fox Movietone and Cinesound newsreels played in cinemas across the country.

They immortalised the famous and the infamous, the eccentric and the battlers. The images evoke the fads and fashions of each decade, and are homage to the memory of those individuals who shaped 20th Century New Zealand. The commentaries encapsulate humour, sadness and empathy as well as prejudice, bitterness and ridicule. This collection holds up a mirror to triumph and disaster, to the glorious and the banal, and demonstrates how ordinary New Zealanders as well as its heroes moulded New Zealand as a nation. In 2003 UNESCO placed the Cinesound Movietone Archive, alongside the Endeavour journal of Captain Cook, on its Memory of the World Register.

They are a unique record of the way we were.
