I'm dreaming of a white chassis...

All lame jingles aside…

What embodies Christmas more than a pure snow white gaming chassis made by the guys with a snow flake for a logo, Fractal Design.

The Fractal Design Define R4 Windowed in White is on of the most feature packed cases on the market to date.

Optimised for silent operation, by using dense heavy foam on all large panels on the interior of the case. And a front door design which contains any front intake fans that are installed, ensure silent yet cool operation.

For a mid tower case, the room inside the rig is pretty impressive, due to the width but also the customisability of the HDD bays.

This is the 5th and final blog in my Custom Water Cooling Series. Click here to check out the rest of the blogs.

It's done! My water cooling loop is fully installed. I have had a good tinker with the rig, pushing the limits of voltages and multipliers. This is what I ended up with:

CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-8150 Octa-Core
Standard Clock: 3.6GHz
Over clocked: 4.214 GHz

GPU: EVGA GTX 770 with ACX (once upon a time)
Standard: 1111MHz
Over clocked: 1332MHz

This is part 4 of an ongoing series where I install a custom water cooling loop in my rig. Click here to read parts 1 to 3.

Today we find out whether the loop has any holes in it!

It is filling day. One of the most exciting and nerve racking portions of installing a water cooling loop. This could make or break the install and there are some important tips you will need to follow in order to do this correctly and safely.

Firstly… Give compression fittings in the rig another good tighten. ;)

Custom Water Cooling - Part 2

The second part of my Custom Water Cooling Series has me pulling apart my previous build and giving everything a good tidy up.

The Corsair H100i comes out and will probably end up going into my BitFenix Phenom build. I saved all the Corsair SP120s to be moved over to the new build.

Corsair have a couple of fans which should be of note to all rig builders out there. The SP series fans are designed to blast focused penetrating air through radiators due to their static pressure optimized design. And the AF series fans are designed to move large quantities of air, great if you are looking to exhaust or intake to create air flow. Both of these fans come with adapters to drop down voltages to get the fans as quiet as you'd like.

Custom Water Cooling - Part 1

For the longest time now I have been considering doing a full water cooled loop in my system. Only held back by the fact that NZ doesn't have affordable access to the parts required. This is no longer an issue. Mighty Ape has secured a supplier with a full range of water cooling equipment to get your system water cooled! I guess for a lot of you out there, this would be a real foreign concept to you in regards to computing.

Is it really a good idea to be running water so close to expensive electrical equipment?

To put your minds at ease, kits are available these days which take away much of the guess work that used to be involved with putting a loop together. Methods of fitting tubing has come along way to the point where above average rig builders can put safe loops together with proper precaution.

The reason water cooling exists, is to accommodate power users who are looking for a quiet operating rig, without sacrificing performance and super high temperatures.
