How to Build a Spring Wardrobe: Part 1

By Rebecca

We're only a few weeks in to Spring and already it feels as though the weather has moved on from the cold depression that is Winter to the crisp freshness of Spring! This transitional season often presents its challenges when picking out what you are to wear – so if you need a helping hand this month the Clothing Gorilla has some handy tips for you in Part 1 of How to Build a Spring Wardrobe!

5 Tips for Building Your Spring Wardrobe

Making sure you have the right attire for the weather is every Kiwi's nightmare. Famous for our “Four Seasons in One Day”, the changeable weather of Spring only adds to the trouble. See below for some tips and tricks to building your perfect Spring wardrobe!

Re-organise

With a change of season comes the time to change up your wardrobe. Put away your large winter coats and woolen jumpers to make space for your favourite new items and those shorts you haven't worn for months. Doing this gets you in the spring frame of mind for fresh, fun and new!

Cover all temperatures

Spring is a fickle season so you need to make sure the items in your wardrobe cover all temperatures. A great range is ideal so go for long sleeves as well as short, dresses, light sweatshirts, tights, shorts, light jeans and a wide variety of footwear.

Layers

Fashion magazines are forever letting you know when layers are in and when they are out, but I completely ignore them as layers are an essential for spring-time. Keeping your outfits looking light while also protecting you from the elements can be easily achieved by layering, such as wearing a waistcoat over a long sleeved shirt over a merino singlet.

Choose lightweight materials

With the temperature increasing, having lighter fashion choices available is a real bonus for spring. Instead of being uncomfortably hot in thick pants and tops I recommend creating your wardrobe around lighter materials such as cotton to give your body room to breathe.

Colour

The season of spring always brings to mind colour. Flowers are blooming and many people love the excuse to put away the dark colour pallet of winter and liven up their attire with a pop of colour. Whether you're a pastel kind of person, a statement and bold colour wearer or enjoy the fluoro highlights, spring is an ideal time of year for it all!

The main thing to remember is to dress for your style. Don't just follow what is in fashion, instead pick out items that fit your aesthetic. Take the take to forage through the hangers for that item that ticks all the boxes for you while still being season-appropriate!
