World Citizenship

Recent years have seen the development of a substantial literature on cosmopolitan political thought and the idea of world citizenship. In this book Derek Heater offers a concise and accessible survey of this complex debate. He aims both to interpret these concepts and to assist in their comprehension. Author Biography

Derek Heater has taught history at both schools and universities, most recently as Lecturer in History and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies at the University of Brighton. He is the author of a number of related books, including Citizenship: The Civic Ideal in World History, Politics and Education (1990, second edition forthcoming); World Citizenship and Government: Cosmopolitan Ideas in tthe History of Western Political Thought (1996), and What is Citizenship? (1999).
