Urban Future 21

Urban Future 21 is the key book on global urban development at the start of the twenty-first century. The distilled result of several years’ work by urban professionals, it has been specially written for the World Commission on Twenty-First Century Urbanism, whose report was the subject of a major conference in Berlin in summer 2000. It systematically reviews the main focus guiding urban development, develops two alternative scenarios for the first 25 years of the twenty-first century and outlines an action plan to meet the likely problems.

Peter Hall is Professor at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London. Ulrich Pfeiffer is an economic adviser to the German government in Bonn.
