A highly illustrated guide for the student and horse owner designed to improve knowledge and understanding of the systems of the horse involved with locomotion. Part I (“Anatomy and Conformation”) sets out in stages a picture of the whole horse in words, photographs and anatomically correct illustrations, enabling students and riders to relate what they see on the outside to what is happening inside the horse’s body. Part II (“Movement”) follows a similar format explaining equine movement. Part III (“Lameness and Injuries”) indicates, using photographs and anatomical illustrations, where stress is likely to lead to injury. Abnormalities in gait and lameness are illustrated, along with sites of common lameness.
