For those living in Britain between 1939 and 1945, the war was an ever-present reality; reminders were to be found everywhere. Huge numbers of objects relating to the war effort at home – some functional, like gas masks, ARP uniforms and ration books, and others less so, like Hitler chamber pots and toys and games – were manufactured and became commonplace in homes up and down the land. Today many of these items have become highly collectable. Peter Doyle and Paul Evans have put together a huge selection of objects, each one superbly illustrated and described in detail. AUTHOR: Peter Doyle is a scientist and militatry historian specializing in the role of terrain in warfare, and has been collecting objects relating to the role of Britain in both world wars all his life. Paul Evans is a specialist dealer in twentieth-century art and design, having a particular interest in posters, graphics and the propaganda arts. Author Biography

Peter Doyle is a geologist and inveterate collector. He is a specialist on battlefield geology and has written and been published widely. Resident: Greater London Paul Evans is a collector of long-standing, and he runs a shop selling twentieth-century collectables. Resident: Greater London
