San Francisco was ground zero for the Summer of Love in 1967, but while everyone else was turning on, tuning in and dropping out, a new trio was pouring molten steel into a mold that would shape heavy metal for decades. Dickie Peterson, Paul Whaley, and Leigh Stephens were Blue Cheer, and the world would soon hear their deafening assault of rumbling Marshalls, colossal feedback and earthshaking Rogers drums.

And as that history was being made, the legendary demo circulated in various forms — sometimes labeled as “live,” sometimes not, but usually incomplete.
