In the land of Terra Mystica dwell 14 different peoples in seven landscapes, and each group is bound to its own home environment, so to develop and grow, they must terraform neighbouring landscapes into their home environments in competition with the other groups.
Terra Mystica is a game with very little luck that rewards strategic planning. Each player governs one of the 14 groups. With subtlety and craft, the player must attempt to rule as great an area as possible and to develop that group’s skills. There are also four religious cults in which you can progress. To do all that, each group has special skills and abilities.
Taking turns, the players execute their actions on the resources they have at their disposal. Different buildings allow players to develop different resources. Dwellings allow for more workers. Trading houses allow players to make money. Strongholds unlock a group’s special ability, and temples allow you to develop religion and your terraforming and seafaring skills. Buildings can be upgraded: Dwellings can be developed into trading houses; trading houses can be developed into strongholds or temples; one temple can be upgraded to become a sanctuary. Each group must also develop its terraforming skill and its skill with boats to use the rivers. The groups in question, along with their home landscape, are:
Proximity to other groups is a double-edged sword in Terra Mystica. Being close to other groups gives you extra power, but it also means that expanding is more difficult.

"Quite complex to start with, but once you know what you are doing this is so fun."
"After reading online reviews that suggested this game, I thought why not treat myself, and me and my gaming friends were NOT disappointed. It's a great strategy rich game, beautifully illustrated. Although it takes a little to get your head around initially, one you understand the game mechanics, and are happy to commit to over an hour of play time, its a challenging and exciting game that anyone can win."
"Really nice game. No luck involved, and great longevity since there are 14 factions to choose from and so many variables. It requires some thinking, so it is not a "casual" game. For the ones familiar with Agricola or similar games, Terra Mystica is a tad more complex. It also takes a bit to prepare (no surprise here), but if you use a shallow box (i.e. the Plano ones to keep fishing gear) to organise the pieces it becomes a breeze. A two players game takes from 1 (once you are familiar with the game and nobody suffers of analysis paralysis) to 2 hours on average. Add another 30 minutes for each additional player. After a a couple of weeks from our purchase it is now one of our favourite boardgames, with more than a dozen games already played. Well worth the buy, greatly recommended!"
"This was a gift for the boyfriend who was absolutely chuffed with it. Great quality and lots of little bits so well worth the money. The rules seem quite complicated at first but i suggest watching a how to play tutorial on youtube like we did-it made the basics very easy to understand. Excellent boardgame that's crafted well and lots of fun."
"Have had for a while and played with friends, can't recommend enough if you are a fan of resource management type games. Can be a little hard for players who are new to board games but after the first game they usually pick it up."
