Spirituality for the Beginner

There is no time like the present to start on a spiritual journey or begin your spiritual practice. My personal journey started with a tragic life event that set me on a path of discovering what my purpose was and humbly looking at my mortality. The event that triggered all of this was my mother passed away from a disease that she had mostly been hiding from me and my sister. She was very brave, and she really did not show too many signs that she was sick with the exception of her weight loss. Pancreatic cancer is unforgiving and relentless.With a lot of tears and support from friends and loved ones I got through her passing only to have my friend of 29 years pass away suddenly. My core was shaken by the loss of the two very central figures in my life. I started reading books about spirituality and listen to guided meditations and then trying to get to a state of bliss on my own. That proved to be a much more difficult task. Eventually I had a breakthrough and oh my gosh, how wonderful and illuminating that was and it has helped me tremendously with the grief and given me a much fuller understanding of the spiritual side of life.So as a last word of advice. Meditate, say your prayers, live a life of gratitude, embrace the contrast and then let it go, ask for what you want and need in this life and you shall have it. Your mind is the most powerful tool you have, so treat your body like a temple and eat a plant-based diet to keep your mind and body strong.
