Psychological Assessment and Report Writing

Psychological Assessment and Report Writing outlines a step-by-step model of assessment, created for instructing students in psychological assessment and comprised of five components: understanding the context of a referral; determining what data is needed to answer referral questions; gathering the data; integrating the data; and communicating findings. The authors review each of these components at length, providing ‘how-to’ instructions each step of the way and alerting readers to a myriad of issues they must consider in conducting assessments in clinical, forensic or educational environments. Case examples are varied to promote interest and meet instructional requirements, and readers are encouraged through sidebars and question-and-answer sections to consider their own case material and use critical thinking skills as they review each section of the model.

Author Biography

Karen Goldfinger, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Connecticut.  She is the lead author of a textbook on psychological assessment, Psychological Assessment and Report Writing, and a former adjunct faculty member for a psychology graduate program. She has a wealth of experience in psychological testing and has long been interested in when, why, where, and how psychological tests are used in everyday life.            

Andrew M. Pomerantz (BA, psychology, Washington University in St. Louis; MA, Ph D, clinical psychology, Saint Louis University) is professor of Psychology and director of the Clinical Adult Psychology Graduate Program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses related to clinical psychology and maintains a part-time private practice of clinical psychology in St. Louis. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at Indiana University School of Medicine Psychology Training Consortium. He is the author of Clinical Psychology: Science, Practice, and Culture (3rd Edition, SAGE, 2013) and Psychological Assessment and Report Writing (with Karen Goldfinger; SAGE, 2010). He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Psychology, Ethics & Behavior, and the Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy. He served two terms as president of Psychotherapy Saint Louis and is a member of the American Psychological Association.
