This book started as a life lesson, born in the throes of parenting amidst a late night, frantic trip to the grocery store with a crying newborn, overtired toddler, a pregnant Mom and a frustrated Dad – all sleep-deprived and time-deprived, with Mom and Dad desperately trying to portray composure and conscious parenting. Perhaps leaving the kids at home would have been a better choice – but where would they think the food came from? how and why were particular foods chosen? It was clear that a trip to the grocery store was more than a mere errand, it was setting the foundation for sustenance and life, it was chartering a genetic, physical, life course trajectory. It started with a game to hold the attention of the children, to have them think about which foods were selected to take into their home and why.
