The second edition of the “McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Mathematics” aims to be a major revision of this trade edition of the mathematics content in the “McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms” (based on the sixth edition). It contains over 4000 entries, each accompanied by a pronunciation guide. Coverage includes all branches of mathematics taught from high school through university levels, including algebra, geometry, analytic geometry, calculus and trigonometry; but also advanced topics, such as group theory and topology. Readers will also find definitions for the terminology of statistics. The entries are supplemented by conversion tables, explanations of scientific, technical and mathematical notation, and other useful data. The dictionary aims to allow the user to keep pace with the expanding language of science and the proliferation of highly specialized terms and acronyms.
