Greensleeves celebrate the legacy of Lloyd James aka King Jammy between 1977-85 with a high calibre double disc selection. Jammy started out in the Waterhouse district of Kingston listening to the likes of Duke Reid and Coxsone before moving to Canada as a young man to be with his wife.
In 1977 he moved back to JA to work as a producer/engineer alongside Scientist at the legendary King Tubby’s studio in Waterhouse again. Before he produced the definitive digital riddim ‘Under Mi Sleng Teng’ in 1985, he would create a slew of instant classics like Half Pint’s ‘Mr Landlord’ and Junior Reid’s ‘Boom-Shack-A Lack’ and roots standards like Sugar Minott’s ‘Give The People What They Want’, Augustus Pablo’s highly sought-after stepper ‘Pablo In Moonlight City’, and U Black’s irresistable ‘Natty Dread At The Controls’, all included here. There’s a tonne more (32 in total) from Johnny Osborne, Wayne Smith, Dennis Brown, Prince Alla and Natural Vibes among others, also including informative sleeve notes from Harry Wise.
