International Criminal Law

This book is aimed at students studying international criminal jurisdiction whose scope is limited to the study of particular classes of criminally punishable egregious actions of individuals. It focuses on crimes such as genocide and the use of rape as an instrument of terror. The book will also focus on decided cases, with the authors selecting the key segments of the jurisprudence for the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). This case law will be supplemented with text from the key conventions and statutes and the reproduction of academic writings where they give historical depth to the matters dealt with in the primary material. This text will be essential reading for postgraduate students and academics studying this subject.

Author Biography

Alexander Zahar is a Legal Officer in the Chambers of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He held a similar position at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He has published several critical essays on tribunal jurisprudence prior to working in international law. Goran Sluiter is Professor of Law at the University of Amsterdam and a judge at the Utrecht District Court. He is a member of the editorial committees of the Journal
of International Criminal Justice and International Criminal Law Review.
