Author Biography
ROY BRIDGES began his university teaching career at Makerere University in Uganda and then joined the University of Aberdeen where he cooperated with John Hargreaves in the development of African history and more general African studies. His own work has concerned mainly exploration and travel and missionary work, especially in relation to East Africa. In addition to numerous articles and major studies of the missionary J.L. Krapf and the explorer J.H. Speke, he has most recently co-edited and written for the Hakluyt Society anniversary volume, Compassing the Vaste Globe of the Earth.
