Fatoumata Diawara released her brand new single ‘Nterini’ on 8th March. A poignant, melodic ode to a distant lover, ‘Nterini´(which translates as “my love/friend/confidant”) musically straddles the traditional and the modern. Taken from her forthcoming album, the single was co-produced by Diawara and Matthieu Chedid (better known by his stage name – M-). Chedid, a superstar in his native France, recently won the ‘Best World Music Album’ award at the French Grammy Awards for his ‘Lamomali’ project, which also featured Fatoumata.
Hailed as one of the most vital standard-bearers of modern African music, Fatoumata Diawara is boldly experimental and yet respectful of her roots. A modern day storyteller, her songs cover such timeless subjects as respect, humility, love, migration, family and how to build a better world for our children.
