Design for Secure Residential Environments

This text provides a framework on which the risk of crime can be reduced through sensible design of the vulnerable parts of houses, community buildings and small commercial premises and the environment immediately surrounding the buildings. The book demonstrates how crime can be reduced and community safety improved simply through good practice in the construction or rehabilitation of buildings and their environments and offers guidance on assessment of security measures and design specification, detailing, installation and maintenance of security features.

Steve Crouch, Henry Shaftoe and Roy Fleming all work for the Safe Neighbourhoods Unit. Henry Shaftoe is also a lecturer in the Facutly of the Built Environment, University of the West of England, Bristol.
