Lizzy and Darcy meet first in Meryton and rub each other the wrong way. If not for a series of thefts requiring someone to solve the mystery, they would likely never find an accord. Working together has the unexpected effect of bringing them a new understanding, and when they thwart a kidnapping, she thinks they might have a chance at friendship and perhaps more. Then Darcy and the Netherfield party depart without word or explanation, leaving Jane (and possibly Lizzy) heartbroken. When she sees Darcy again in Hunsford, she’s not sure she can forgive him even as they work together to apprehend a blackmailer. They part with animosity but are reunited in London, finding themselves at the center of a murder investigation. When that brings them closer again, Lizzy accepts an invitation to Pemberley for Darcy to properly court her. Things seem to be going well, even with Lizzy’s mother in attendance, but murder once again threatens to derail their burgeoning romance, and it also brings the return of an old Darcy nemesis.
