Construction and Demolition Debris

This book addresses one of the major solid waste streams resulting from modern society, construction and demolition debris (CDD).   CDD in the past has not received the same attention as other waste streams (e.g., municipal solid waste), but with the growing recognition of the environmental and economic importance of proper CDD management, this material now is the focus of attention of many government agencies and private businesses. This book provides a comprehensive review of CDD, its characteristics, environmental risks, and regulatory requirements, along with an in-depth discussion of the issues pertaining to CDD recycling and disposal.   

Author Biography

Timothy G. Townsend is the Jones Edmunds Professor of Environmental Engineering Sciences in the University of Florida’s Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment and a registered Professional Engineer in Florida.  He teaches and conducts research in the discipline of sustainable materials management. Dr. Townsend is well published in the scientific literature regarding waste management and is best known for his research related to construction and demolition debris, bioreactor landfills, electronic wastes, waste beneficial use, and recycling of waste-to-energy ash.  
Malak Anshassi is an assistant professor at Florida Polytechnic University teaching solid waste management, sustainability, and life cycle assessment courses. Her research focus is on incorporating life cycle thinking into solid waste management, including construction and demolition debris management.
