In this volume, the views of the founder of the Austrian School of economics, Carl Menger (1840-1921), are clarified by various specialists (Austrian and French, economists and philosophers) with the common purpose to understand Menger at his roots. All themes (including his views on liberal creeds, on methodology and theory) surge from a common source: the archives that make up Menger’s Nachlass (his private library located in Japan and his notebooks in the USA). Author Biography

Der Herausgeber: Gilles Campagnolo, geboren 1972 (2001 Promotion in Philosophie und Wirtschaftswissenschaft), ist Associate research Professor am Zentrum fur Wissenschaftslehre und Erkenntnistheorie, einer Abteilung des CNRS (Nationales Forschungszentrum, Aix-en-Provence, Frankreich). Er ist Autor zahlreicher Veroffentlichungen, die Volkswirtschaftslehren in deutscher Sprache zum Thema haben; sein besonderes Interesse gilt Marx, Menger, der Osterreichischen Schule und der Historischen Schule. The Editor: Gilles Campagnolo, born in 1972 (Ph.D. in Philosophy and Economics, 2001), is an Associate research Professor at the Center for Epistemology, a branch of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS, Aix-en-Provence, France). He has published extensively on German and Austrian economic thought; his special interest is directed to Marx, Menger, the Austrian School and the Historical School.
