The Halle – conducted by Cristian Mandeal – presents Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor. Mandeal is the 1st ever Principal Guest Conductor in the Halle’s 150 year history. Having studied with Herbert von Karajan in Berlin & Sergiu Celibidache in Munich, Mandeal is now in demand across Europe.
A frequent Guest Conductor with many of the great orchestras in Europe, Mandeal specializes in the Central European & core Germanic symphonic repertoire, including the works of Bruckner. Mandeal’s work is characterized with great theatricality, deep musicality & sizzling technical skill – which he brings to bear very dramatically in this dark & moving work. Bruckner’s Ninth remained unfinished upon his death in 1896. It was intended to be his magnum opus & it’s hard to resist the impression that the prospect of death left a deep imprint on the character of this symphony. Review “Supremely well executed by the Halle, in even finer form than we have learned to expect in the last few years. The playing is of fierce precision & immense power.” BBC Music MagWe are committed to protecting your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act and working with our suppliers to assist with warranty claims.
