Atmospheric Modelling and Millimetre Wave Propagation

The millimetre wave radio spectrum is an important natural resource with increasing applications as demand for telecommunication capacity grows, especially in the context of mobile and satellite communications. Millimetre-waves are also being used in the Earth’s atmosphere for a variety of remote sensing or surveillance activities, both from aircraft and spacecraft. Whether the interest is in telecommunications or in remote sensing, it is essential for the system designer to have techniques for taking radiowave interaction with atmosphere into account in evaluating the performance of systems. Also, those concerned with interpretation of remote sensing data in the millimetre-wave region, must take account of radio propagation effects.
