As Japan’s primary long-range fighter, it dominated Pacific air battles and showcased exceptional agility in dogfights. However, as newer Allied fighters emerged, weaknesses in the Zero’s design—such as limited pilot armor and lack of self-sealing fuel tanks—became apparent. American pilots adapted their tactics, exploiting these vulnerabilities and ultimately diminishing the Zero’s dominance.
