Rupert Harrington’s parents died in a motor car accident when he was one year old. At the time of their death, Rupert was staying with a neighbour while his hard-up parents went to try and scrounge some money. The neighbour did not think Rupert had any living relatives and so he was placed in Local Authority Care.
Rupert has just turned twenty four. He lives in a dirty bedsit in Hackney, East London. He is newly out of work – again.
Rupert has just had an argument with his landlord as he was behind with his rent. He had been threatened with eviction. After paying some of his rent, he has only thirty two pounds left. He is down, but not quite out – yet.
An hour after the argument, there was a knock on his bedsit door. A lawyer from a prestigious firm resident in the Middle Temple introduced himself. Rupert thought he was being evicted, but no, the lawyer invites Rupert to his office the following day, where he will learn something to his advantage.
The following day, the lawyer informs Rupert that he is heir to a very large fortune left him by a grandfather he never knew. The inheritance includes five off shore bank accounts, a very large Coutts bank account, a safety deposit box full of gold and precious stone, a large investments in the City of London, plus a 4,000 acre estate with a nine bedroomed house in rural Buckinghamshire.
Will Rupert learn to embrace his good fortune, or squander it?
