Pleasant

A lonely waitress drives home after her late shift at the local diner, ready to take a much needed vacation to make sense of her life that has recently spiraled out of control. The snowfall is heavy. The roads are slick. By the time she sees the deer in the road, she knows its already too late. She slams on the brakes, the last thing that flashes before her eyes is a blur of scarlet darkness, a sign of her impending doom.

Be it dumb luck, or an act of god-Dahlia’s truck spins out of control-rendering both her and the deer unharmed. Standing in the heavy snow, Dahlia can’t find the words. She felt the impact, and her front bumper told of the damage. If she didn’t ram into the deer. what did she hit?

Several feet away, she sees a figure-sprawled and unconscious in the snow. Its features are terrifying familiar, but famous in her town of Point Pleasant. Wicked talons, large wings, and skin the absence of color. Against her better judgement, she takes him home and cleans him up, unsure if his company will be prove to be a fatal mistake… or a pleasant surprise.
