Prince first used the term “Hit n Run” to describe pop-up shows that he would perform throughout his career. In the summer of 2015, Prince announced that he would release an album by the same name — and that “things were about to get experimental, weird, and super funky.”
Released on September 7, 2015, HITnRUN phase one was Prince’s 38th studio album that featured all new material and was recorded in the two years leading up to release. It was primarily a collaboration with Joshua Welton and marked the first time that Prince worked with a co-producer. There were also contributions from THIRDEYEGIRL, Rita Ora, Judith Hill, Lianne La Havas and Curly Fryz.
