EPISODE 2 :- THE WAR YEARS
On the first day of World War II a message was sent from the Admiralty to all parts of the British Navy - it read simply ''Winston is Back''. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain has made Winston Churchill First Lord of the Admiralty, a position Churchill had held at the start of World War I. But was this appointment all it appeared to be? In this programme we examine Churchill and his performance during World War II and ask the question: how did a man responsible for some of history's greatest military disasters become the hero of the British people and the only man who could lead them through war?
EPISODE 3 :- VICTORY AND DEFEAT
The final chapter in Churchill's lengthy career begins with the end of World War II. Churchill admitted he was lonely without war and did not relish the humdrum existence of a peacetime politician. In the final episode of the series we examine the contradictory final chapters of his political career. Ever aware of the future whilst simultaneously struggling with ill health and his advancing years. He will go down in history as the clich d flawed genius, a man who was capable of both towering achievements and some of the rashest moments of folly in history.
