Description

Not only is television the most powerful medium of our generation, but it's also the most exciting. Since broadcasts first started in Britain in 1936 as a public service free of advertising, almost 80 years later there are now as many as 500 channels available in this multibillion pound industry. At the push of a button, it can bring the horrors of the Ukraine, the thrills of the winter olympics or the suicide of much-loved Coronation Street character Hayley Cropper into the nation's living rooms. Using the vast photo archive of the Daily Mirror, this book will celebrate the story of British television over the decades and the celebrities the medium has created, this book will be a revealing, amusing and entertaining exploration of all things television.

Author Biography

Tony Stewart has been Editor of the Daily Mirror's Saturday television magazine We Love TV for more than five years and is one of the most highly-regarded experts in this field. Tony is also the Mirror's soap critic and has written a humorous and acerbic weekly column for the title for more than 13 years. Such is his respect in the industry that he is the longest-serving judge on the panel of ITV's rating-winning British Soap Awards. In these roles, it's not unusual for him to watch more than 24 hours of television a week, yet he still claims to be sane.
