Description

WEBSTER, INDIANA This is the story of the little village of Webster, Indiana, and of Webster Township - from the time of the first settlers in the very early 1800's through 2011. It's a very quiet town now, not at all indicative of its lively past. The author grew up there from the age of five (1949) until he moved away to take a teaching position after graduation from college (1966). The book is directed at two audiences - the old-timers, who will enjoy reminiscing, and the younger ones who have no idea what the community was like back in the day. Even readers who are not from the Webster area will enjoy seeing what small-town life was like in the distant - and not so distant - past. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jim Cox was born in Richmond, Indiana, on July 30, 1944, the son of William and Betty Doty Cox. He has an older brother, Bill, and a younger sister, Kathy. Jim lived in Webster, Indiana, from 1949 to 1966. He is a graduate of Webster High School (1962), Huntington University (B.A. in mathematics - 1966), and Purdue University (M.A.T. in mathematics - 1969). He taught high school math for four years before going to work for an insurance company in Van Wert, Ohio, from which he retired in 2003. He backpacked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine in 2003-2004. He and his wife, RoseAnn, bicycled across the United States from Washington to Maine in 2006. He has two sons, a stepson, two stepdaughters, and twelve grandchildren. Jim and RoseAnn still live in Van Wert. Since his retirement, Jim has been a freelance newspaper writer, covering high school sports.
