Description

We Are the Night is a 2010 German vampire thriller film dealing with a young woman who gets bitten by a female vampire and drawn into her world.

Lena (Karoline Herfurth, Perfume: Story of a Murderer) is a troubled young woman from the wrong part of town. Antisocial and self destructive, Lena is caught in dead end life until she meets Louise. Beautiful and glamorous, Louise is everything Lena is not and Lena cannot help but be flattered by her attention and her promise of a new life and family. A life of power and excitement. A life that will never ever end.

A sexy, suspenseful and adrenaline pumping vampire film, WE ARE THE NIGHT is an edgy tale of a provocative gang of female vampires living large, making their own rules and leaving a merciless trail of blood.

Reviews

“Twilight has managed to rake in millions while destroying everything a real horror fan may have enjoyed about the vampire in the first place. We Are The Night manages to bring back some of the real blood that’s been missing with all those shiny tween vamps and does it with some seriously gorgeous looking women. Starring Karoline Herfurth as Lena, Nina Hoss as Louise, Anna Fischer as Nora and (my personal favorite) Jennifer Ulrich as Charlotte, We Are The Night is a female vampire flick. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one, but I’m sure they’re out there. This was my first go with any vampire movie that wasn’t dominated by men and it’s quite the visual ride. I’m not sure I can say as much about the storyline but it managed to keep my attention. Perhaps filling the movie with sexy vampires helped there though…We get all the typical vampire cliches but they somehow feel new here. Maybe it’s because of the glut of crappy vamp flicks we’re treated to in a post Twilight world. Maybe it’s because I try and steer clear of vampire movies. Either way it worked for me. The flick looks and sounds incredible, from the first moment of the women on a plane to the final action scene.” The Film Reel

“Any true horror fan worth her or his salt will be able to glean that the German filmmakers Jan Berger (screenwriter) and Dennis Gansel (director) are pretty big fans of Kathryn Bigelow's 1987 vampire film Near Dark. Only about 15 minutes of their strange, kinetic, and enjoyably lightweight We Are the Night would be enough to indicate their affection for Eric Red's screenplay, so close does it hew to the central premise of that cult classic horror film. But despite a (big) handful of themes and ideas borrowed from a slightly obscure and appreciably better film, We Are the Night manages to periodically break through its familiar trappings, and it usually does so with something flashy, sexy, crazy, or gory…We Are the Night may not have all its own parts, but the final product pretty much reeks of enthusiastic filmmakers who wanted to bang out a slick, sexy, sometimes silly vampire tale. For the most part, I believe they've succeeded. What the film lacks in originality, it makes up for in energy. It's also well-cut, handsomely shot, and unapologetically pulpy. Bonus asset: the four leading ladies, lovelies all, are actually strong actresses across the board. Amazing how that helps. I do recommend the film, particularly to the vampire fans…” FEARnet
