They are a made from a thin t-shirt like material that only has two layers, so you fell compelled to use the filters. It is tight across the mouth. It does tuck under the chin for a good fit. The strap accross the back, is not suitable for XL heads as it makes the ear loops uncomfortable, but this suits a large or medium. Overall the fabric is soft, lightweight, snug fit, which might be a plus for some people.
