Description

DISC ONE – U-BOAT WAR As the coastal neon burned brightly at night from New York to Florida, Americans were unaware that just a few miles offshore lurked one of the world s most potent military forces. Poised to strike against their country, Hitler s U-boats had arrived on the American seaboards. Watch as the German U-boat fleet had its way in American coastal waters and witness vessels after vessel go down in what has to be one of the greatest maritime disasters of all time. DISC TWO – U-BOAT WAR – IRON COFFINS Often referred to as Iron Coffins, the U-boats were crewed by 44 men, who each spent their entire time at sea in cramped and squalid conditions. Living alongside their highly explosive weapons for long periods of time made the claustrophobic existence ever more intolerable. Of the 38,000 men that went to sea in these deadly craft, only 8,000 were to survive to tell the tale. The defence of merchant shipping and the defeat of the U-boats became the Allies main priority in 1943. Here is the story of the strategy and tactics that were used to inflict catastrophic damage on one of the most dominant German fighting units in the history of World War Two. DISC THREE – U-BOAT WAR – SEA WOLVES With the prime objective of sinking and disrupting merchant shipping in the Atlantic, U-boats were active from the first day of the war to the last. They created such chaos that Winston Churchill wrote The threat the U-boats posed in the Atlantic was the only thing that really frightened me during the war. On their defeat hung the outcome of World War Two . In this riveting DVD German submarine strategy, campaigns and leaders of the early days of World War Two are recounted and reviewed, particularly the actions of the famed Wolf Packs.
