Concerning the author of the Traet, very little is known beyond the faets that he was the eldeft (on of Captain thomas and elizabeth (budgell) graves; that he was a member of the Inner Temple, a Mafter in Chancery, and during feveral years a member of the Houfe of Commons, reprefenting the borough of Haft and Weft Looe, in Cornwall; and that he died at his Chambers, in the Inner Temple, in June, 1801, aged feventy - feven years. The prefent edition of the Traet is as perfeet a fac-fimile of the original as can now be made; and, with a hope that it will prove ufeful to thofe who {hall be engaged in the ftudy of the military hiftory of the United States, it is refpee'tfully iffued.
