Treasure Island is the latest, and last, of Spike's re-interpretations of classic works of literaturo. In this final volume, all the familiar faces from Robert Louis Stevenson's original version join in the fun - Squire Trelawney, Jim Hawkins, Long John Silver - but they are joined, as were the men of Sherwood in Spike's Robin Hood, by Groucho Marx. Long John's parrot plays a starring rolo: "And the parrot would say, with great rapidity, 'Pieces of eightl Pieces of eightl Pieces of eightl till you wondered that it was not out of breath, or till John throw his handkerchief over the cage. "Take that bloody cloth off my cagel' screamed the parrot." The rip-roaring adventure of the hunt for buried treasure unravels faster than Ben gunn's pants with plenty of laughs along the way. Even the sad bits are funny: "Hunter never regained consciousness. He lingered all day and died, so I ate his dinner".
