Let me start off by saying this is the first of the Rainbow Six game I've played – but I don't think it matters with regards to this review (I have read the book numerous times), the story line isn't bad and is the same style as the book, which I enjoyed. The arsenal is very extensive, and most weapons can be modified. There's even a firing range to test them out on. The game itself is enjoyable to play as well. That's the upside. Unfortunately Red Storm could have put a lot more effort into this game if they'd wanted to. the graphics on full are acceptable but more bump mapping and sharper textures could have been used. The weapon models are good and highly detailed but look slightly too big – but hey, it looks better than too small. Lots of the people’s accents don’t sound right or don't suit – for example: Louiselle is French but his accent sounds like a bad Japanese imitation. And half the foreign characters just have American accents. The NPC animations are terrible (with no ragdoll physics or even ragdoll animations) and are jerky and often don't work properly. But the real downfall is the AI. Your enemies react slow and hardly ever change their location (like trying to flank you), and often seem to be following a routine. And it's almost pointless having team mates as they are blind and often suicidal, doing things like running off into the open, yelling: “Clear!” and getting killed. And at the mission summary you'll find you've got about 50+ kills and you 3 team mates will have a total of about 7 (one will usually have 0). Having said that, I still think it’s an enjoyable game to play.
