"Fantastic gateway game with a railroad theme!"
4 stars"

A wonderful game to introduce anyone into the realm of Euro-gaming. This is a classic “gateway” game for newbies to board games or for people who think of board games as Monopoly, Backgammon, Cluedo, Risk! etc.

This is the original version of the Ticket to Ride series of board games by Alan R Moon. The board shows a map of the USA.

The game is based on a set collection mechanism where you collect train cards to try to build routes to connect between cities. You score points when you complete a route from one city to another. The longer the route, the more points you get.

There are also destination tickets in which the “mission” is to link the two cities on the destination ticket together. You score points at the end of the game for each completed destination ticket. But be careful, you also lose points if you cannot complete a ticket.

This game won the Spiel des Jahres award for best game in 2004, and kicked off a series of Ticket to Ride variants like Ticket to Ride Europe and Ticket to Ride Marklin.

I still enjoy the original the most and so does my family and friends who have spent many hours playing this. There is an expansion for Ticket to Ride called ‘Ticket to Ride: USA 1910’ which adds more options to the game to make it more interesting.

"Love this game"

We brought this for our 9 year old who enjoyed it but not as much as my husband and I. We have become addicted to this game and we regularly play it. Highly recommend watching the YouTube instructions rather than trying to read the instructions.

"Easy to learn and lots of fun"

I adore this game. You know a game is a classic when you can open it up and easily play without having known much about it beforehand yet be confident in all your moves straight away. This is one of those games that will give you instant satisfaction. I'm looking forward to acquiring the extensions now for even more enjoyment.

Description

One of the most popular games ever designed, Ticket to Ride is a simple yet strategic game of connecting cities in the United States with trains. On their turn, players simply draw train cards, claim routes on the board, or draw more destination tickets. Players must balance drawing cards into their hands with claiming routes before opponents in this friendly, yet competitive board game. The rules can be taught in only a few minutes, but games are varied enough to give the game unlimited replayability. With scores of plastic trains and a beautiful board, this is a game you'll find yourself playing time and time again with all ages.

Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure game. Players collect train cards that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who can fulfil their Destination Tickets by connecting two distant cities, and to the player who builds the longest continuous railway. So climb aboard for some railroading fun and adventure. You've got a Ticket to Ride!
