Description

The photographs gathered together in this book reflect changes made to Thornbury over the last 130 years. A wide range of subjects has been chosen to illustrate the broad breadth of that change, in all its guises. For centuries the thriving livestock market was at the centre of life in the town and images recall some of its history and eventual demise. Architecturally the main streets may look untouched by time, but a closer examination shows the many detailed alterations that have occurred. The continuing charm and character of Thornbury, ‘The Jewel of the Severn Vale’, are revealed. Also recorded are the lives of Thornbury people, past and present, both at work and at play. Our ancestors would recognise some activities, but others perhaps would surprise or even shock them. This edition of Thornbury Through Time is fully updated and revised.
