The Untouchables
From director Brian De Palma (Carrie, Scarface) comes a must-see masterpiece – glorious, fierce, larger-than-life depiction of the mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago… and the law enforcer who vowed to bring him down.
After building an empire with bootleg alcohol, legendary crime boss Al Capone (Robert De Niro, Raging Bull, Goodfellas) rules Chicago with an iron fist. Though Prohibition agent Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner, Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves) attempts to take Capone down, even his best efforts fail due to widespread corruption within the Windy City's police force.
Recruiting an elite group of lawmen who won't be swayed by bribes or fear, including Irish-American cop Jimmy Malone (Sean Connery, Goldfinger, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) and Italian-American trainee Giuseppe “George Stone” Petri (Andy Garcia, Internal Affairs, Ocean's Eleven), Ness renews his determination to bring Capone to justice.
Critic Reviews:
- " The script by David Mamet is serious, funny, dramatic, and action-packed at all the right times. " – Mike Massie
- " It's a beautifully controlled film, as well as an intensely exciting and enjoyable one. Although De Niro and Connery easily walk away with the acting honors, the less flamboyant performance of Costner is perhaps the most admirable in the film. " – Richard Freedman
- " The Untouchables is a terrific movie, full of the same brand of fierce vitality that made the 1930s gangster films so compelling. " – Bob Thomas
