"This book grips you from the start."

This is a book unlike any I have ever read before. Once you manage to wrap your head around the time frame changes it is excellent. It is based on a new and interesting premise of time travelling as a kind of genetic disease. It follows a man and his wife as they interact over many years at many different ages. It shows all the trials and tribulations that are faced by anybody in a relationship and the unique difficulties faced by being in a relationship with a time traveller. It is a winning combination of fantasy and romance. You can't go wrong with this book.

"A time travel love story!"
5 stars"

I really enjoyed this unique and interesting book. I haven't read anything quite like it before and I think that's why it is so memorable! It does take a little bit of getting used to the moving around in time but the author does it well. I have recommended it to many of my friends – some don't enjoy it but most love it like I did. There is a movie being made at the moment based on the book – looking forward to that as well! :)

Description

This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare and Henry who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. His disappearances are spontaneous and his experiences are alternately harrowing and amusing. The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's passionate love for each other with grace and humour. Their struggle to lead normal lives in the face of a force they can neither prevent nor control is intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

And Niffenegger's beautiful prose and sure-handed way with character development lifts "The Time Traveler's Wife" beyond the realm of romance potboilers and into the mainstream of literature that will last.

People magazine
As Clare and Henry take turns telling the story, revealing the depth of their bond despite everything, a sci-fi premise becomes a powerfully original love story. - Amy Waldman ("Critic's Choice," starred review)

Get ready to be swept away. Audrey Niffenegger’s ... The Time Traveler’s Wife, is poised to single-handedly resurrect the literate romance genre in a way we haven’t seen since A.S. Byatt’s Possession.
