Maritz Vandenberg (more correctly Maritz van den Berg) was born in Pretoria and educated at Afrikaans Boys High School and the University of Pretoria. He was a highly active member of the anti-apartheid Liberal Party of South Africa for seven years until leaving for England in 1966. He spent his career here in architectural publishing, and his retirement in the writing of several books, the most recent being An inclusive environment (2008).
