Word from the Author The inspiration for The Spring Horse came from my mother who was a true daughter of the Ozarks. While the story takes place in an earlier period than when my mother was born, the struggle to survive in the hills had not changed much when my mother, her brother, and three sisters were growing up near Banner, Arkansas. The hard work to farm the rocky soil without modern machinery and the backbreaking work of a blacksmith were very real to my grandfather. While the characters are fictional and the story is from my imagination, be assured that the history and the places are very real. It's my hope that as you read The Spring Horse you will be inspired by the faith and endurance of the Walker family and the unselfish vision of Dr. Paul Williams. When a young widowed Nina Walker sold the small farm and moved her four children to the town of Batesville, she had no idea that her decision would launch her and her children's lives in directions that she would have never thought possible while she worked along side her husband in the rocky soil. When you pick up The Spring Horse, you'll find it to be a fast read and a page-turner as you journey with the characters through loss, love, despair, and hope. You will share in the life-changing experiences of people who find faith and those who put their faith to work to help others. You'll find yourself laughing and crying as you're taken back in time and share their dreams for a brighter future.
