Description

Dissociative identity disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder, is one of the most widely misunderstood psychological conditions. Many people are not comfortable with the concept of DID due to their fear and mis-perceptions. However, the exquisite and complex psychological and emotional mechanisms at work in dissociative identity disorder provide life-saving safety to trauma victims. In The Six of Me, Carolyn Young explores ideas and feelings about DID, bringing an informed first-hand perspective to this misunderstood and controversial diagnosis. If you have never been introduced to the idea of DID, this book will open your mind and heart. A beautiful and important book for all readers, The Six of Me opens a window into a unique and beautiful form of self-preservation in extreme circumstances. "Having been diagnosed with DID has been one of the best things to happen to me. It explains a lot about my life growing up and why I said some of the things I said or didn't say." Visit the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation website, www.isst-d.org for further information about Dissociative Identity Disorder.
