The engine tests were carried out according to the latest method in which load, speed and throttle openings are varied. This gives rev sulte which closely simulate operating condi tions. Instead of plotting the data in the usual manner with reference to two coordinate axes, this thesis brings out a method of plot ting data with reference to three coordinate axes, thus giving a surfaee which represents all possible operating conditions of the engine. Two surfaces, one giving gasoline per horse power per hour and the other total gasoline, were made for each engine tested so that compar isone of their respective performances could.
